Convex and concave connection

One end of the electrode is processed into a screw hole with conical female thread, and the other end is processed into conical male thread of corresponding size. The connection between the two electrodes is realized without the need of specially processed connector. This connection method is commonly used for carbon electrodes and small and medium sized graphite electrodes.

Four reasons why the convex-concave connection is not used in the production of medium-sized graphite electrodes
It is necessary to use a tightening torque of about 50% larger than when connecting an ordinary electrode to be joined. It is difficult to achieve the required tightening torque.
For large and medium-sized graphite electrodes, the mechanical strength of the connected male threads is not up to standard.
The design and processing technology of the connection thread shape is not mature enough.
The male thread at one end of the convex-concave-connected electrode is easily exposed to the outside, so special measures must be taken for packaging and transportation.

 

Two shapes of connecting threads

The cylindrical nipples are machined into trapezoidal threads. Trapezoidal thread transmission resistance is small, the structural strength of the thread is larger, so can withstand greater tensile stress, Trapezoidal threads have little effect on the strength of the nipple even if there is a small amount of damage.The processing of conical nipple into triangular thread increases the friction surface, reduces the thread pitch is beneficial to improve the thread self-locking ability, and increases the connection firmness when the outer diameter of the nipple is the same.

 

Graphite electrode connection state has an important influence on electrode consumption

When graphite electrode is used in steel furnace, 2~3 electrodes are connected vertically, inserted into the furnace chamber through the electrode hole of the furnace cover, and the electrode above the furnace cover is connected to the transformer through the electrode controller and the conductive bus. The connection mode, nipple shape and connection state of the upper and lower electrodes have important influence on the operation of electric furnace and electrode consumption.
 

There are two types of graphite electrode connections

There are two types of electrode connection :1. At present, most electrode manufacturers use specially processed nipples to connect the upper and lower two electrodes, and the surface of the nipples is made of thread (male thread). This connection can be further divided into two types: cylindrical connection and conical connection. 2. For convexity and concave connection, one end of the electrode is processed into conical male thread, and the other end is processed into corresponding shape and size screw hole with female thread. No single connector surface is needed to realize electrode connection.

Conical nipples consume less graphite electrode than cylindrical nipples
