Reasons for the use of binders and impregnants in the production of graphite electrodes

In addition to the raw material petroleum coke and pitch coke, the production of graphite electrode requires the use of a certain amount of binder to bond the aggregate, the powder particles and the kneaded carbon paste to have good plasticity. An impregnating agent is used to fill the voids in the body of the baked semi-finished product to increase the density and mechanical strength of the semi-finished product after burning.


 

The adhesive function has two aspects

When it is in a liquid state, the inflammatory aggregate and the powder are wetted, bonded and kneaded into a plastic paste. After the paste is pressed and cooled, the binder is hardened, and the aggregate and the powder are consolidated into a raw material.
